Trainer: Bob Baffert
Owner: Watson, Karl, Pegram, Michael E. and Weitman, Paul

Derby Points: 55

With the recent deflection of Honor Code this one takes the top spot on my Derby Six this week. He could move down if Baffert decides to not run him in the Santa Anita Derby. Reasoning behind that is that most horses that have not even run a mile and an eighth don't run well in the Derby. I personally am not afraid of the Apollo curse with this one I feel he has a real solid chance to win he's got a great foundation of races underneath him and most importantly he doesn't need anymore points. I love the way he ran in the Rebel and I feel strongly that even if Tapiture got a clean trip that this one would've still bested him.

Derby Points: 10

He's taking the I'll Have Another path to the Derby and with the recent defection of Honor Code that does nothing but help this one. I feel his pedigree may be suspect at a mile and a quarter but the way this one runs I have to believe that he can and will get the mile and a quarter distance. Most interesting will be whether Gary Stevens chooses this one or the ultra talented Bayern.

He lost absolutely nothing in defeat he ran lights out and showed he is a lot tougher than his small exterior would suggest. It also showed he has a lot of heart and that is something he is really going to need when it comes to the Derby. Only question he's got left to answer is if he really wants to go a mile and a quarter.

Derby Points: 50

He's got the pedigree and he's got the talent. Only question does he have the experience to win the Derby. Sounds like Graham is pointing towards the Calder Derby a little unconventional but definitely a good choice it keeps the horse close to home and he gets a race over a tiring surface that will prep him enough to get to the Derby. This horse has got loads of talent and he's bred to run all day and most people don't rank him because of the whole "who did he beat?" question in all honesty it's not who you beat this year it's whether or not you actually have a mile and a quarter pedigree.

We will find out how good this one is this weekend. It's either sink or swim for him now and I truly feel he is one that will be sinking come the first Saturday in May. He doesn't have the pedigree plan and simple though he may be brilliant nine times out of ten brilliant doesn't win the Derby.

With the defelction of Honor Code this one moves into the Derby Six. I love his action and how effortless he seems to make everything. I love how as the races have gotten longer he seems to have gotten better only question is if he can keep this string of impressive wins going until June. This is one who also may have trouble at a mile and a quarter.

Triple Crown Reactions

I got into horse racing way back in 2004 thanks to a plucky little chestnut horse named Smarty Jones who swept through the Kentucky Derby and Preakness with devastating ease I thought for sure even with my limited horse racing knowledge at that time that he would be racings 12th Triple Crown winner. My hopes were dashed as another plucky little colt named Birdstone swept on by him and dashed all my hopes in that final heartbreaking furlong.  The Triple Crown is part of what fueled my love for this sport at such a young age, and after Smarty Jones I spent most of my life thinking I would never have the privilege to witness a Triple Crown winner. So when American Pharoah came along I relished every hoofbeat, every race-call, and every heart stopping moment along the trail. I probably have watched his Belmont over a hundred times, and I could probably recite it word for word by now. I remember exactly where I was when he crossed that wire first I was hot walking a horse named Castlederg w
