Absolutely love his Holy Bull win. He showed a fantastic ability to relax on the inside of runners and finish with an absolute flourish. Kiaran has even said this colt is ahead of Frosted and Cairo Prince at this stage in the game those are some pretty talented horses. He easily crushed Greenpointcrusader who I thought would give him more of a challenge then he did. The way Mohaymen re-broke at the top of the stretch gave me goosebumps this is one very special racehorse. Hopefully he stays sound and we will see just how incredibly special this colt is.

I don't like this horse any less than Mohaymen, but considering he hasn't started yet and the connections are aiming for the Tampa Bay Derby I'm going to leave him at #2 for awhile. Tampa is a notoriously speed favoring track which is slightly concerning for this deep closing colt. The other thing is he cannot get to far back in the Kentucky Derby otherwise he will be in a heck of a lot of traffic. Don't get me wrong I still absolutely love this colt and his chances at the Kentucky Derby there are just a lot of concerns on if he will get into to much traffic trouble.

His win in the Robert B. Lewis was very impressive, and I can't help, but get the feeling that this one wants to run all day. He's bred to run all day and Dixie Union has sired a Belmont Stakes winner in Union Rags so Mor Spirit does get a stamina boost from his broodmare sire. There's no telling how far Eskendereya would have gone if he had stayed sound so this colt very well could get better as the distances increase.

This colt has a beautifully long stride and looks like he will have the ability to go long. His two wins were incredibly impressive, and the thinking here is he will be in stakes next out only question is which way he will go New York or Florida as his owners also own Mohaymen. That's a very very talented one two punch that Shadwell has, and I hope they're just as excited as I am about this two very special colts.

His win in the Southwest was incredible the move he made was unbelievable, and he's only going to get better with distance and age which is a very scary thought. I don't think this is the type of horse that will need the pace to set up for him either which makes him a very big threat indeed.

Last Race: Southwest Stakes
Last Race Finish: 1st

6. Nyquist
Uncle Mo- Seeking Gabrielle by Forestry
Jockey: Mario Gutierrez
Trainer: Doug F. O'Neill
Owner: Reddam Racing LLC

Derby Points: 30

I'm still not entirely confident with this horses ability to handle a distance of ground, but his performance in the San Vicente was too good to ignore. He definitely didn't look like a tired horse at any point in the race and to have a finishing time of 1:20 is incredible for your first race back. I'll see how he does at a mile and en eighth before I move him any higher.

Last Race: San Vicente Stakes

Only going to get better as he gets older and as the races get longer. He has the pedigree to be a superstar going long being a half sibling to the very good grass horse Point of Entry. With the Bernardini on top he will be blooming later as well I fully expect him to start peaking at Belmont time. That being said I still think he is a serious threat to the Kentucky Derby picture. Hasn't put in a work since the Remsen which is slightly concerning, but who knows he may have been turned out for awhile which would only help this late developing colt.

Toews On Ice didn't exactly flatter his win in the Los Alamitos Futurity which is slightly concerning. He is still a very talented colt, and one that just keeps on grinding away which is what you want to see in a Derby horse. He's still working steadily towards his return in the Robert B. Lewis which should set him up well for either a run in the San Felipe or Santa Anita Derby.

Extremely talented individual with a ground covering stride that looks like he'll get better with age. If he handles the transition from two to three he's going to be one tough costumer this winter. His third in the Juvenile is not discouraging he simply did not have enough time to make up ground as he was really far back in the Juvenile. Has yet to work since his last effort, but that's not too concerning expect him to make a return in either the Fountain of Youth or Rebel Stakes.

Very impressed with everything he has done so far in his career he finished off his two year old year with a very good win in the Remsen Stakes. He's another that is going to get better as the distances get longer with Tapit on top and a Dixie Union mare on bottom. Has been working steadily since his Remsen win and looks to return in the Holy Bull Stakes.

Very big win in the Los Alamitos Futurity has shot this one up my list. Working steadily towards his return and fully expect this one to be a very serious racehorse. He's another that will get better with longer distances. His second in the Kentucky Jockey Club wasn't bad at all either which moved him forward enough to bound home in the Los Al Futurity.

His Delta Jackpot win was better than looked he showed he has the ability to win from anywhere on the racetrack which makes him very dangerous. He's a very workman like horse and just grinds out wins. With his breeding he's going to get better as he gets older which is a scary thought because he is already a really nice racehorse.

Ode to the Little Horse that could.

2015 San Antonio Handicap
He was a small little gelding not much to him he was pitch black and had the heart of a lion. He was the ultimate racehorse, and his name was Shared Belief. It broke my heart into a million pieces when I found out about his passing due to colic. I have decided to go back and look at all the great moments Shared Belief has provided the sport.

I first heard of Shared Belief when he was a two year old I watched his debut win on the 19th of Oct. 2013 on TVG and all I could say was wow, and where would this brilliant animal be making his first stakes start. I didn't have to wait to long as the plucky little black gelding came back on the 10th of Nov. 2013 in the Hollywood Prevue Stakes where he absolutely demolished his competition from there the sky was the limit.

2013 Hollywood Prevue Stakes

The next step for Shared Belief was the grade one Cashcall Futurity his first start in grade one company. In this race he would beat Del Mar Futurity winner Tamarando,  Front Runner Stakes winner Bond Holder, multiple stakes placed Electric Eddie, and future graded stakes winners Kobe's Back, and Candy Boy. No one could expect him to cruise home like he did winning by 5 and 3/4 lengths this gelding was for real. I could not contain my excitement as he snagged the 2013 Eclipse Award for Champion 2 year old male I could not wait to see him in the Kentucky Derby. It was not to be as the gelding suffered a nagging foot problem that would post pone his return till May 26th 2014 in an allowance race which he took down without a problem.

2013 Cashcall Futurity

2014 Shared Belief's return

He would not return to the races till July after the allowance score. Where he would be making his dirt debut in the Los Alamitos Derby. He would show that dirt was a non issue as he took down the $300,000 winners share of the purse like it was nothing. What came next was an unbelievable display of just how great this little warrior of a horse was he would be taking on older horses for the first time and trying the mile and a quarter distance for the first time in the Pacific Classic. What he displayed that day made me realize just how special this gelding really was.

2014 Los Alamitos Derby
2014 Pacific Classic

His next start though solidified his large heart as he took down the grade one Awesome Again. This time he had to really fight for the win, and that day he showed that he had the heart of a lion. He may have been small, but this gelding was as mighty as Hercules.

2014 Awesome Again Stakes

He suffered his first career defeat in the Breeders Cup Classic, but it was to no fault of his own as he was mugged at the start by Bayern. A lesser horse would've quit, but the plucky little gelding did not give up and rushed home to finish an even fourth. His big 2014 was not over though as he took down the grade one Malibu Stakes. I could not wait for what 2015 had in store for Shared Belief and I most of all could not wait for him to meet up with Bayern, and California Chrome again. Though he would never run against Bayern again he did meet up with California Chrome again in his next start.

2014 Malibu Stakes

The race provided everything the world could've hoped for, a clean trip for Shared Belief and the ideal trip for California Chrome. With the circumstances equal the two horses set down for battle turning for home, and Shared Belief showed that he was indeed the best horse in America as he throughly spanked California Chrome, and claimed his crown as the leading older male heading into the rest of 2015. He would race twice more in 2015 one being a brilliant and dominating victory in the Santa Anita Handicap. The next would be the last time he ever faced the starter in the Charles Town Classic. He would suffer a season ending injury, and his connections remained hopeful for a 2016 return which was not to be.

2015 San Antonio

2015 Santa Anita Handicap

He was as fierce as a Rottweiler, as mighty as Hercules, as courageous as a Lion, and though he may have been little he could out run the best of them. He ran a hole in the wind when he was at his best, and what hurts the most is we wont ever know just how great this little gelding was. Instead we are left looking back at his 10 victories that will forever be etched in the annals of the sport as some of the greatest displays of heart and courage that any racehorse has ever shown. Shared Belief was a monster in a little black package and the sport will miss him. Rest easy Shared Belief we will never forget you.

He hasn't put in a bad race yet. He's super talented and bred to run all day. He's a half to Point of Entry who was a superb long distance turf horse a couple years ago. He is only going to get better with age, and this is one to keep an eye on especially if he makes it to Belmont.

There is no 2 year old in training more bred for the Triple Crown distances than this one. When Mike Smith says he loves a horse you better listen especially if it's a filly that is as talented as this one. There is no official confirmation that she will be pointing towards the Kentucky Derby, but with her owner it would not surprise me in the slightest if this filly is Kentucky Derby bound. She is bred to run pretty far but there are hints at distance limitations I'll have to wait till she's officially confirmed as a Derby threat before I move her any higher.

Trying to find words to describe what American Pharoah means to the sport of horse racing is like telling a kid to only pick one thing at the candy shop. He gave this sport a much needed shot in the arm, and gave even the most rigid handicappers goosebumps. The horse accomplished more than any horse probably ever will accomplish ever again.

American Pharoah has been a real gift to racing, and thanks to his generous connections for allowing him to prove to us just how incredibly great he was on Saturday Oct. 31st. American Pharoah is undoubtedly your 2015 Horse of the Year and Champion 3yr Old Male capping off an incredible career that saw him win such races as, the GR1 Del Mar Futurity, GR1 Frontrunner Stakes, GR1 Arkansas Derby, The Triple Crown, GR1 Haskell, and finally the Breeders Cup Classic to become racing's first Grand Slam winner. He proved to everyone that yes indeed the Triple Crown is possible you just have to be an extremely exceptional racehorse.

He showed that sometimes great horses can get beat, but almost always they come back with a vengeance. He is arguably the greatest racehorse I will ever see in my lifetime, and I so wish he could come back for a 4 year old campaign, but that is not in the cards. What is in the cards though is for him to stand at Ashford Stud in Versallies Kentucky where he will probably stand for a fee north of $90,000 he will be given life fit for a king which he has without question earned. Only time will tell if his offspring with have half his heart or half his ability, but if they have that they will be spectacular on the racetrack.

American Pharoah is the embodiment of everything you want to see in a great racehorse he has the perfect temperament, a wonderful, and downright beautiful way of going that makes you know you are in the presence of greatness. He made the impossible possible, and proved that yes greatness can come around in plain brown package with a short tail. This horse made everyone in and around horse racing a believer in something magical, and other worldly. He made us believe for a short while anything, and everything is possible.

He is certainly worth his weight in gold at this point after capturing the Grand Slam, and adding a fourth jewel to his already impressive crown. He earned a remarkable $8.6 million dollars, in a race career that saw him head to post 11 times with him coming out victorious an even more amazing 9 times, whats even more amazing is 8 of his wins were Grade 1 Stakes. He will be mentioned with the likes of Secretariat, Citation, Zenyatta, and many others. In his final start he gave us what was arguably the greatest performance of his remarkable career he proved he belonged to be mentioned in the same sentence as the horses listed above. This is one horse who will never be forgotten giving this sport something that only comes around every 37 years.

Most of all though Pharoah gave people hope. Hope for a better future, hope that one day there will be another like him, hope that we will see another Triple Crown champion, hope that even though you have been beaten you can return with a fiery vengeance, hope that maybe just maybe this sport wont die. American Pharoah has given so much to each and everyone of us that follows, and loves this sport there are simply not enough words to say what he means to racing. Here's to you Pharoah I sure am going to miss watching you grace the track with that majestic stride that moved mountains, we all love you Pharoah  your a once in a lifetime horse, and good luck in your next career.
