3. Royal Delta*
4. Authenticity

6. Street Girl

Street Girl has second preference in the Filly and Mare Sprint

This years Breeders Cup Distaff though small is very mighty and deep in talent, you have two time Distaff champion Royal Delta back for a attempting for a record third Distaff victory. You have arguably one of the best three old fillies we have seen in years in Princess Of Slymar, who has racked up an impressive string of victories this year including the Kentucky Oaks, Alabama, and the Beldame in the latter she bested Royal Delta. Close Hatches is no slouch either with her own grade one victories and also makes a very strong one two punch case for Bill Mott. Then you have the California flash Beholder who if allowed to lead can run you into the ground. Authenticity is the second best older mare in the country and could very well spoil the party here if she gets the right trip. Street Girl winner of the Calder Oaks ran a decent third in the Cotillion to Close Hatches and if she takes the right steps forward she could also spoil the party. I will break them down one by one and give you my top three picks and plays.

The Contenders

Beholder: very impressive win in the Zenyatta Stakes last out in which she beat Authenticity, if allowed to lead she will run this field into the ground. She is a very talented three year old and definietly one to be reckoned with in here.

Princess Of Slymar: Her win in the Beldame was scintillating only worry here is if the race took to much out of her, and if she has enough gas in the take to put in what would have to be a career best race to beat this field. If Princess of Slymar wins here she could potentially clinch Horse of the Year honors, in order for her to get Horse of the Year Game On Dude would have to lose the Classic and Wise Dan would have to lose the Mile.

Royal Delta: back again there were thoughts that she would run in the Classic but the decision has been made to keep her here in against her own sex. Royal Delta will have to avenge Princess Of Slymar after she lost to that one in the Beldame. Royal Delta would have to put in a huge effort here she wont get the lead here as Beholder will be bound and determined to have the lead so she will have to resort to her old tactics of coming from off of it.

Authenticity: is always right there and always tries her hardest, if Royal Delta doesn't fire this one certainly will. Has run a couple of nice second place finishes to Royal Delta and Beholder got a much needed race over the track which will only enhance her chances here.

Close Hatches: though she was no match for Princess Of Slymar in the Kentucky Oaks she certainly has taking major steps forward to capture two straight grade one wins in the Mother Goose and Cotillion Stakes. She may not be a match for Royal Delta but if Royal Delta doesn't fire this one will be right there at the finish.

Street Girl: ran a decent third in the Cotillion and seems to be making forward progress though I think she is biting off more than she may be able to chew here.

The Top 3 Picks and Plays

1st Princess Of Slymar
2nd Authenticity
3rd Royal Delta

Next time I will break down the Juvenile Fillies and give you my top 5 picks and plays!

Ode To The Place That Made Me

Some people say that your home should tell the story of who you are and be a collection of what you love and hold most dear, well to me my home has always been at Canterbury Park. I yearned for those summers every single day of my young life I literally had a countdown started on my phone from the moment the meet closed for the winter. It was the one thing that kept me going through those long tough winters in school, It helped me discover so many things about myself and taught me so many life lessons. It was the place that really shaped who I became. My first experience at Canterbury Park actually happened before I could walk or even form memories, My Mom and Dad knew someone who worked at Canterbury and through that connection, we were able to get a photo in the winners circle. I was just a young child in the photo and I didn't even look at the camera, but it was just the beginning of my long future with Canterbury Park. Fittingly the horse that won the race we got the photo for ...

Triple Crown Reactions

I got into horse racing way back in 2004 thanks to a plucky little chestnut horse named Smarty Jones who swept through the Kentucky Derby and Preakness with devastating ease I thought for sure even with my limited horse racing knowledge at that time that he would be racings 12th Triple Crown winner. My hopes were dashed as another plucky little colt named Birdstone swept on by him and dashed all my hopes in that final heartbreaking furlong.  The Triple Crown is part of what fueled my love for this sport at such a young age, and after Smarty Jones I spent most of my life thinking I would never have the privilege to witness a Triple Crown winner. So when American Pharoah came along I relished every hoofbeat, every race-call, and every heart stopping moment along the trail. I probably have watched his Belmont over a hundred times, and I could probably recite it word for word by now. I remember exactly where I was when he crossed that wire first I was hot walking a horse named Castlede...

The Beverly D was also her first start on US soil and showed she definitely likes firm going and she will get firm going at Santa Anita which will definitely enhance her chances.  Laughing(IRE): four starts and four wins this year for Laughing, she has racked up a very impressive roster of wins. She took down the grade three Eatont...
