With a strong third place finish in the Fountain of Youth I will keep him in the number one spot. Though he didn't earn many Derby points with that start he ran his race though he lost there was no possible way he could win that race the way the track was playing. The horses that finished in front of him both looked dog tired and will be much easier to catch in the Florida Derby if that is where Shug decides to send this very talented son of Curlin.

Sounds like he is still on track for a start in the Rebel where he will meet a very talented Tapiture. Tapiture may be very hard to catch in the Rebel due to the mile and a sixteenth distance, but I promise you if this one is sent for the Arkansas Derby there will be no denying him if he is firing on all cylinders. Even though Honor Code has lost a lot of time due to his ankles Shug should be able to get him ready to roll come Rebel day where he will be able to pick up some much needed Derby points and experience.

Gary Stevens has got himself a good one with Candy Boy. His win in the Robert B. Lewis thoroughly impressed me. He has a very nice stride to him and looks like he wants to go further in distance. To early to tell what his next target is but this is definietly one to keep an eye on. Though I do worry a tiny bit about distance with him; he has a very limited amount of stamina in his pedigree, but his broodmare sire did win at a mile and quarter.

Darley has recently aquired this talented colt they really are desperate for a derby win and they will do anything to get it. Derby gods haven't shined to brightly on people who try to buy their way to a Kentucky Derby victory though so thats another notch against this one if you believe in the superstions. With a pedigree like his he shouldn't be able to get a mile and a quarter but Smarty Jones' pedigree said the same story and look what he accomplished. There is always an exception to the rule so thats why you need to include him on any Derby list because you simply can't ignore his talent.

He rejoins this list after a very impressive win in the Southwest Stakes he showed that Honor Code has to seriously worry when shipping to Arkansas. Though I have some doubts about his ability to get farther than a mile and an eighth, there is no doubting his talent. Steve Asmussen has a Derby out there with his name on it whether its this year well thats something we will have to wait to find out. The way he pulled away made me a re-believer in him and his talent, time will tell if he can actually get a mile and a quarter.

He ran a very good race when closing in the Risen Star. Really like how he keeps making jumps forward and seems to get better and learn something new every time he steps foot on a racetrack. With Mike Smith in the saddle this one could very well pull in a Derby victory and it's about time Starlight Stables gets a Derby win. His pedigree is really the only notch against him but with the way he ran in the Risen Star I feel he will want to outrun his pedigree.

Off The Six

Shared Belief: Due to lack of information and no news on a replacement prep I will keep him off till he makes another start.

Noble Moon: Since he is skipping the Gotham I don't like the time gap between the Jerome and the Wood Memorial and don't feel he will be able to win the Wood against horses who are getting the experience and more importantly the points for the Derby.

Triple Crown Reactions

I got into horse racing way back in 2004 thanks to a plucky little chestnut horse named Smarty Jones who swept through the Kentucky Derby and Preakness with devastating ease I thought for sure even with my limited horse racing knowledge at that time that he would be racings 12th Triple Crown winner. My hopes were dashed as another plucky little colt named Birdstone swept on by him and dashed all my hopes in that final heartbreaking furlong.  The Triple Crown is part of what fueled my love for this sport at such a young age, and after Smarty Jones I spent most of my life thinking I would never have the privilege to witness a Triple Crown winner. So when American Pharoah came along I relished every hoofbeat, every race-call, and every heart stopping moment along the trail. I probably have watched his Belmont over a hundred times, and I could probably recite it word for word by now. I remember exactly where I was when he crossed that wire first I was hot walking a horse named Castlederg w
